Bristlecone Montessori School Programs

Ages

Bristlecone Montessori provides two programs for its students. The Primary program is dedicated to children from ages 2 ½ or 3 years through age 6 or 7. The Lower Elementary program is grades 1 through 3. Each child is viewed as an individual. Children are ready to expand their learning experience at different ages.

Hours

BMS has both half-day and full-day Primary programs. The half-day program is 3 hours per day, 9am – Noon, Monday through Thursday. The full-day program is 7 hours per day, 9am – 4pm, Monday through Thursday. The Lower Elementary Program is 8 hours per day, 8am – 4pm, Monday through Thursday. Please see “Late Pick Up” in the Policies section of this handbook.

Extended Care

Based on the schedules of many BMS families, we have added an Extended Care program to our school. Before-school care is 7:30am – 9am. After-school care is 4:00pm – 5:30pm. Please pack healthy snacks for your child to eat during Extended Care services.

Closures

With a few exceptions, BMS follows the Park County Public School RE-2 District’s calendar for holidays, vacations, and closures due to inclement weather. At the beginning of the school year you will be asked to sign a call sheet if you wish to receive a call the morning of each inclement weather closure. If school will be closed for the day and you have signed the call list, you will receive a notification call from your child’s primary guide between 5:30 and 7:30a.m. You may also check the “Business and School Closings” link in the weather section at www.9news.com.

Snacks

Snacks are offered every day in the morning and afternoon. Each family is asked to take turns bringing snacks throughout the school year. A detailed list will be provided to you the week before your turn. We strive to provide organic foods, low in sugar and free of dyes and preservatives. The snack schedule will be established when enrollment is final. Families with more than 1 student will be asked to take a turn for each child enrolled. Depending on the size of your child’s class you may be asked to bring a snack more than one turn per year.

Lunch

Full-day children need to pack a lunch. Please provide healthy, well-balanced meals and any necessary utensils. We encourage use of containers that can be reused or recycled.
